Adult English Language Learners (ELL)
Adult English Language Learners (ELL) provides one-on-one or small-group English speaking and literacy lessons. When adult speakers of other languages acquire English language and literacy skills they are able to achieve better employment, provide for their families needs, participate in their children’s schools and academic progress, and become contributing members of our community.
Providing free language and literacy programs right in the neighborhood where many of these adults live contributes to better attendance and improved outcomes. A significant portion of the Naples-area service work force is drawn from the Golden Gate area. Improving the literacy and language skills of adults in our community provides a better pool of employees for our local businesses.
Small-group classes, led by trained volunteers with outstanding curriculum, allow for individualized goals and significant progress. Students are placed in compatible groupings based on level of education, level of English proficiency, and personal goals. Some groups of students have limited English and no literacy in any language while other groups have basic English fluency and higher education in their home language.
New: Adult students in our English classes now have the opportunity to study and prepare for US Citizenship!
New: A generous gift from an anonymous donor has enabled Grace Place to purchase 5 licenses for adult students to supplement their English classes using the Rosetta Stone language software in our computer lab.
